Our Mission Statement

We believe that all children can and will learn. We will provide instruction, guidance, empathy, consistency and encouragement to empower students to be successful individuals and contributing members of society. The foundation which makes up the educational experience will promote academic, physical, emotional and social growth while preparing children for the life-long process of learning. The success of our programs requires the joint effort of students, teachers, parents, and other community members.

Meet the Principal

Kilee Sowa has served as the principal of North Albany Elementary School since 2017. She brings over two decades of experience in education, having taught ELA, Writing, Social Studies, and Graphic Design at Memorial Middle School for 11 years, where she also served as Dean of Students for five years. Before that, she student taught at Calapooia Middle School and has remained deeply involved in the Albany education community ever since.

Throughout her career, Kilee has taken on a variety of leadership roles, including AVID coordinator, PBIS coordinator and presenter, Foundations team lead, and summer school administrator. She has served on multiple district committees related to curriculum adoption, teacher evaluation, and grant work. Her extensive experience in schools with behavior support programs reflects her strong commitment to supporting the whole child.

Kilee holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Education with a focus on literacy from Oregon State University, as well as administrative credentials from Portland State University. She is especially passionate about early literacy and enjoys staying current with research and best practices in education.

A longtime Albany resident, Kilee has lived in the community for over 20 years. She and her husband have two teenage children and two cats. As a family, they enjoy camping, traveling, participating in and watching sports, and spending time outdoors. Kilee loves hiking, being out on the lake, attending concerts, and going to athletic events.

Her favorite part of working at the elementary level is the opportunity to work closely with both students and staff every day. She is proud to be part of the North Albany Elementary team and is dedicated to fostering a positive, supportive school environment for all.
